Note that this will not look exactly the same, especially when blended on a non black background. Saber > Render Settings > Composite settings > Transparent. You need to tell Saber to work in transparant mode. And if you duplicate your layer you can offset that animation for a stacked effect with a leading edge. Setting the layer mode to screen doesn't make the layer transparant. So you can keyframe the mask over time and the effect will follow. Masks can be changed at any time, are inherently non-destructive and in After Effects they are animatable as well.
